You wrote all the things i feel, thank you. With the exception that i feel anger to the unfairness of the corporate media. I’m just not plain clinical about it. But some anger dissipates with Kamala’s incredible fire in reaching out to the American masses in such a joyful and positive way. But i still am mad at the injustice done to our efficient and high performing President Biden by corporate media. It just wasn’t fair. They can just go suck eggs.
The Harris campaign released their policy proposals today. Our wealthy media class will not read them (actual reporters will), but they will characterize them as “light on detail.” They will continue to demand interviews, not to discuss policy because, again, they don’t read that and by and large they couldn’t understand them if they did.
The only quibble I have is that the props for Trump’s speech (it wasn’t a press conference) were there for his benefit—to remind him to stick to the point. Which of course he was incapable of doing.
I read an article today on how the Mainstream media is slowly turning away from Trump because he’s losing his luster; instead they are starting to try to court Harris. I immediately thought “ hope she isn’t falling for that because they are not going to nearly give her the leeway and positivity and grace that they gave Trump when he was feeding their machine.
They finally see people are tired of what he is saying because he’s been saying the same shit for 10 years and it’s getting progressively unhinged and it can’t hold our attention anymore. Yet, the media still longs for the chaotic Trump years and are starting to realize they are the only ones longing for it.
Now they’re trying to feed at the table of momentum from Harris & I hope she continues to ignore them. Catch her when you can, otherwise, they can all fck off.
"The public, particularly the liberal base of voters that Democrats need to cultivate and keep at a fever pitch at all times (not just election years) deserves to be fed and catered to, not the press."
This will help America become what we are, a country FOR IMMIGRANTS!!! Thank you for an awesome article!!!
I originally brought this up with Jason Stanford, but it’s worth sharing here:
What I’m finding funny about this whole discussion is that we’re seeing political journalism go the way of film and music criticism, and for many of the same reasons. There’s still an attitude with big political writers of how “Kamala had better give me a sit-down interview…or else.” As with the innumerable film and movie critics 25 years ago making threats of bad reviews unless they got sufficient swag and access to make them change their mind, their subjects responded “So else WHAT?” Chris Cillizza is no different from Rex Reed or Michael Corcoran in that his real issue is that the Harris campaign isn’t stepping up and yelling “HOW HIGH, SIR!” the moment he stamps his widdle foot about exclusive access. THAT right there is why political news coverage has such a horrible reputation with younger readers: they’ve gotten really good at spotting entitled alter kokkers from dealing with their parents and grandparents, and if they wanted to listen to has-been and never-were blowhards whining “Well, this is what _I’d_ do if I were Kamala Harris,” they’d just get on Facebook.
This is a terrific articulation of the value of bypassing press mediation of news events. But I wonder: doesn’t the Harris model risk reaching only the converted? I opt in to her campaign, and writers whom I follow who are also like minded, so I hear her message. How does she reach independent voters who are persuadable? The value of a non-partisan media company is to reach the entire audience, although sadly almost no traditional media outlets have demonstrated even handedness. Thanks for this article; it was insightful.
Well, I mean, EVEN IF Kamala cooperated w/the complicit msm, they won’t cover her plusses anyway. So reaching independent voters won’t be reached by corporate media ANYWAY. It’ll have to be with the excitement of her supporters to EXTEND that excitement to them by way of the rallies and human connections. Right?
Peter Baker of the NYT covered the Biden & Harris rally in Maryland and projected how hard it must be for Joe Biden to watch his second term be taken away from him.
Seriously, you fucking idiot, that's what you took away from crowds chanting "Thank you, Joe" and "Ka-ma-la"?
Not how much average Americans on Medicare will save on common prescriptions. Not Kamala Harris saying "Our wonderful president" or Joe Biden saying "She's going to be a great president!" while the crowd roared?
Biden's message would have gotten to more people if he had bypassed the legacy media.
Here's a thought: at one of her lovefests, she fills the first two rows with writers from Substack like Oliver, Jeff Tiedrich, Evan Hurst, etc. No reporters from the MSM. Just people like us who'll ask genuine questions about actual subjects.

Proud: Love your last comment.

Totally agree 💯%!!!!
I concur with you. The media has failed to do its job. Its prime purpose is raking in the bucks, not reporting factual information.
BTW, your dog is adorable!

Another excellent argument. Well done. Thanks for writing it.
My response? Fuck 'em.
Fuck 'em twice.
“the press throws up these occasional tantrums”
Occasional??

Oops. Something wrong, um, they’re. 😉

Harris isn't going to make that mistake.
Whining gaggle can’t stand that Kamala is essentially ignoring them.
“The media is the enemy “. Maybe Donald was on to something.
You referenced President Barack Obama when addressing the hand of when I think you meant President Joe Biden.
I saw that too in the email version
I see it has been fixed in the official post.

For shits and giggles, invite Judge Boxwine. 🙂🌊
In addition to beating Trump, GOP, MAGA, Musk, and fascism, Kamala/Walz will beat the media, too. It's going to be glorious
