I suggest that the billionaires like Musk, Thiel and others who have been backing Donald reconsider if they want to be known as the ones who funded the racist, fascist rapist who lost. It won’t age well that they backed a loser. Bad enough that they backed him when it looked as if he might win, but a loser is really a bad look.
Mush is certainly being very overt in his actions with Twitter to support Trump and lie about Harris. I see no reason at all to believe him that he's reconsidered his support for funding Trump. Musk has shown himself to be a constant liar, so why would anyone believe he's withdrawn his financial support?
My thinking is that the billionaires expect something in return for their $ when the recipient wins. I don’t think they want to back a loser and be on the shit list of the winning side. I hear that usually they donate to both sides to have it both ways, but to donate only to a loser doesn’t make sense. There isn’t an ounce of moral thinking in this. It’s all self serving.
Just like Biden stopped getting donations when it looked like he was going to lose and then withdrew, I believe MAGA donors will recalculate now that it looks like the tide has turned.
Trump’s NABJ meltdown is an ad for Vice President Harris’ campaign. Why he thinks that playing the race card against an accomplished, well-spoken Black womsn is a winning strategy is beyond me. It didn’t work on President Obama and it’s not going to work now.
I doubt that the Harris campaign would do this, but here's a possible attack line: "Donald says he didn't realize until recently that I was Black. You know, people have been saying that Donald is suffering from cognitive decline. Maybe this is proof of that?"
"My personal theory for why they hold on to this ridiculous notion is that Trump secretly being a normal human being beneath his bluster will justify the votes that the parents and grandparents of many national reporters have made in Trump’s favor."
Nonsense. The corporate media keeps pushing the notion that Trump is normal, or will become more normal, because he's good for their business.
They've said so themselves. That Biden is "boring". That they miss the halcyon days of constant Trump scandals. Because boring, although it's a sign of good, competent, effective governance, doesn't sell papers, or get "journalists" book deals.
Trump means millions and millions in ad revenue and book sales. And if means they give up whatever moral sense they had and democracy dies in America, to them it's a small price to pay. They don't care about their children growing up in a free non-oppressive country, so it's nonsense to think they're enabling Trump because of they care how their parents might have voted once upon a time.
Great article ,Oliver . Stump has always been a racist , a pedo . a rapist ,And a massive fraud . Have the people that say they will vote for him , He wouldn't of rented too . Peace
"America is not yet the progressive wonderland of left-wing dreams"--that's the point exactly. The dreams are not just "left wing" but stated in our founding documents. I am progressive in inclination though not method: I don't believe in foisting ideas on people (unless they prevent ideas that actively hurt other people) but that progressive ideas will in fact come to fruition because they are FAIR ideas and people can be persuaded. I grew up when Jim Crow ruled the South (and indirectly many parts of the north) and--more directly for me, when the patriarchal "trad wife" tradition was strong. In my lifetime women have gained much freedom, Civil Rights laws were enacted, and the country has come to believe, as a whole, in bodily autonomy and the right to choose, including who you can love. The support for the ACA is the first step towards a more universal form of healthcare
But somewhere along the way, the idea of the American Dream turned into a zero sum game. If "they" can progress, my progress will be blocked. MY freedom is what is important, and other people's freedom be damned. The dislike of democracy stems not just from the desire to have someone "fix" my life (so much for bootstraps) but from the idea that majority rule means I will be oppressed if I have a minority view and MY view must prevail at all costs. The oppression is not actual--it is an affront to my "values." No one is making me or my kids read books that offend my morality--the very existence of those books is oppression.
I (the progressive I here) don't actually think that most Americans, apart from unregenerate racists, actually believe all this. They are being TOLD all this to make them accept the oligarchy that the tellers want to be the ruling principle of America. Their views are literally being "framed" --what they "see" put into a context that makes them see the worst in anyone not exactly like themselves.
We can turn this around because cracks are starting to show--what is being sold is indeed "weird" and we need to keep harping that is those VIEWS, not the voters themselves, are indeed weird and completely antithetical to what the dream of the founders promised.
FYI - let's not call them "dumb," please. "Dumb" is an ableist pejorative, and is an excellent example of how/why we all need to get off our pedestals and admit that the biggest difference between the left and right is that on the left, most of us are at least trying to do better, while the right is all about embracing our oppressive tendencies. For anyone here who did not know that "dumb" is a pejorative, I would suggest taking a look at this site, which is my favorite reference for weeding out ableist language, and finding suitable replacements: https://www.autistichoya.com/p/ableist-words-and-terms-to-avoid.html

Musk rescinded his pledge of $45 million a month to the Donald 😂
Or so he claimed.

I dunno, did Henry Ford and Prescott Bush ever show shame or remorse for funding Hitler?

Their parents and grandparents are reliant on Social Security and Medicare.
I wouldn't bet that all of their parents and grandparents did vote for Trump.
They're paying more attention to what the stockholders care about than family members.
Case in point? Jesse Watters’ mom.

You have solid life goals.
