As a longtime Dem living in a more rural (I.e. ‘red’) area we had to ‘play it safe’. Our kids grew up not discussing politics in public because we didn’t want to cause trouble. Well, as the late, great John Lewis has taught us, it’s now time to make some ‘Good Trouble’. I’ve watched the video. I went to ActBlue and I’m donating monthly to the Biden-Harris campaign. It’s time to come out of the shadows. As the video says It’s time to finish the job. A big win in 2024 would nail in the MAGA coffin.

"Run for Something" recruits and trains young people to run for stste and local office....a great place to donate.

"VoteRiders" works with voters to ensure they have the correct IDs to vote...many do not after the tsunami of voter suppression laws that swept the country. Student IDs aren't acceptable in some states, divorced women who haven't updated their driver's licenses, etc. A great place to donate or volunteer.

Donate directly to great candidates (Adam Frisch almost won against Lauren Boebert)...the DNC/DCCC ignored the race. Donate directly to the candidates.

Turnout is always a struggle for Democrats. Volunteer with "Postcards to Voters" or textbanking to teach voters who need a nudge to vote.

Volunteer to be election workers...many long-term workers retired because of GOP intimidation tactics. Volunteer as a group to combat these techniques, it's only a short time commitment, and training is provided.

Good point. Simon Rosenberg thinks we need to change the narrative on the economy and he's right, but we need to reclaim freedom and patriotism too. And it should be easy because it's the truth.

Well done - an excellent piece of writing, as usual. This clear-eyed article makes me want to cheer.

It's about time democrats reclaimed the word "freedom" as the party's central tenet. The freedom for every single person to pursue a full, true, and prosperous life as set out in our founding documents. We fought a Revolutionary War for this freedom. It's what the flag truly stands for.

What the right wants is the "freedom" to force all people to comply with their beliefs. The ability to control, to suppress, and to eliminate anything and anyone they deem unacceptable. That describes an entirely different seven-letter word beginning with F: fascism. You called it.

Now let's hope democrats run with this contrast and continue to reclaim freedom with the strength that's desperately needed.

I'm surprised there was nothing about guns and the "freedom" to be safe in your schools, businesses, and places of worship. I can't think of a timely issue that polls higher (even higher than freedom of choice).
