Committee members framed the questions to be used the following year by Peter Rodino's impeachment committee. It was a critical role, and absolutely necessary.

Oliver has it right. Hearings should be held for no other reason than to make sure the justices, clearly and simply, are forced publicly to show who they are. Subpoena Alito, Thomas, and Roberts and question them under oath. And if they ignore the subpoenas, or show up and refuse to answer then they should be shown to be doing those.
“They’ll just ignore our subpoenas so what’s the point?” The point is exactly that: To show, clearly and publicly, that they are ignoring subpoenas and refusing to be held accountable.
