I will grant that Schumer probably knows Tuberville isn’t going to apologize, but I don’t even know what calling for an apology is supposed to accomplish. Just point and say “This is who they are.” The last Republican I know of who apologized for anything was Joe “You Lie” Wilson, who was on Fox literally the next day going “Yeah I apologized (eyeroll)(snicker).”

As for “bipartisanship,” it never occurs to our media stars that that might mean “Republicans should cut the crap and do some real work.” Which is telling.

Good catch on the downside of the "bipartisan" label! I have been counseling Democrats that we have to connect the dots between our policies, values and the Party brand, and this is going into my toolbox!

I agree that Democrats should be telling the public the truth about their many achievements despite lack of support from Republicans. The news is filled with hateful rhetoric from MAGA and not enough about Bidens wins. We need to change the messaging.

A guy who got 85,000,000 people to vote for him knows what he is doing. Also, it’s not bad tactics to appear reasonable in the face of derangement.

To be fair, many voted against trump more than they voted For Biden. This is not to say he’s not doing a remarkable job in the face of extreme adversity but it wouldn’t hurt him at all to earn votes for him versus against Trump in 24, and I believe he could do that and gain even more people if he stops trying to work with maniacs.

Dem voters have moved passed that effort. He does not have to disparage them or call them out, but he can stop acting like they have been governing well together, thus sharing credit with them despite their block attempts.

He def won’t win any Repub voters w/this approach either. They will not ever give Biden any credit for bipartisanship efforts as they simply want full control, not a democracy.

There’s more at stake than political, advantage. Heather Cox Richardson cites experts on the decline of democracies who say that, however this might frustrate activists and partisans, it is critical to show respect for democratic norms and to try to get democratic institutions to function as designed.

Personally, I think it’s the kind of smart politics that enabled Biden to win back the midwestern states that Clinton lost. While I take your point about the anti-Trump vote, it’s not like that vote was there for the taking by anyone with D after his or her name. I was for Warren, but in retrospect I doubt she could have handled Trump. Same goes for Sanders and Buttigieg.

I believe he can continue showing respect for Democratic norms without giving credit to Republicans, even if he doesn’t call them out.

They for sure are not working towards democracy or even in good faith framework of bipartisan governing.

Ie: “we passed a long past due infrastructure bill to serve Americans, create jobs, etc” VS “we worked together to pass bipartisan infrastructure bill...” knowing they didn’t work with him.

Possibly, but I’ll let Biden be the judge of that.
