Excellent Oliver. I was thinking about this when NPR did their reporting of 45 and 46's trips to the border this week. The NPR "reporter" lamented that neither president offered any "new ideas" about fixing the border as though Biden hadn't just agreed to a package that addressed the situation head on while Trump has offered nothing constructive (and killed the above-mentioned package). Pretty impressive that they could both-sides that one!

Yes, Obama and Biden are boring… but that’s what lets me sleep at night, knowing I’m going to wake up in a world where the adults are doing what adults do… I love the liberals who try to take care to do the jobs we elected them to do, unlike the conservatives who just trumpet their news bites.. it’s truly exhausting.

Maybe I'm the only one, but every time I comment on the NYT directly criticizing one of their pieces it fails to be approved. One might suspect that they have their orders.

We got Hunter S. Thompson before we needed him.

Wayne Barrett as well.

This is a column I could have written - not anywhere nearly as well - that expresses everything I’ve said and complained about over many years. Thanks!

I appreciate all the work media analysts and critics are doing. It may look like it doesn't make a difference, but check out the comments on NYT articles about the 2024 election these days, for example. More people are onto the so-called "liberal" medias' tricks like overhyping suspect polls , downplaying Biden's/Dems accomplishments (or hardly reporting them), normalizing Trump in myriad ways, etc. There is plenty of intelligent criticism compared to even a few years ago coming from readers -- people aren't just blindly buying everything they read, even from the Grey Lady. I'm one of those frequent critics who stopped subscribing due to the above (I have a free student account now so can still read and post). This is all due to the dogged, often unsung work by people like you, Media Matters, FAIR, Wonkette, the late Eric Boehlert, and so many others (NYT Pitchbot, anyone?). We are making a difference by publicly pushing back, letting them know we're onto them. While I don't think it will wholesale force them to make major changes soon due to the financial interests, etc., I do think headway is being made. Awareness is half the battle. We keep at it. The truth and the stakes are too high. Thank you for what you do!

But..but, Oliver, we will be accused of engaging in Cancel Culture? Oh me, oh my! We canceled Bari Weiss!

Thank you. I really love your perspective and I love your dachshund. I had them growing up. Keep up the great reporting and let’s change the world!

This one needs to be stapled on the forehead of every liberal activist and public official.

Nice use of "balderdash".

This is also probably because the media overlords themselves have probably bought into the "liberal media" story and are kind of flabbergasted that the Left could have a legitimate criticism of them.

Daily Kos offers excellent and critiques of MSM shibboleths, which are the right’s best friends. Nothing on Fox etc is as beneficial to Trump as the Times’ perverse version of “objectivity.” It confers a legitimacy on him that he’d never otherwise have.

My sense—which may merely be because of what I happen to read—is that the left is resigned to a media with a false conception of objectivity and would rather expend energy on efforts that might get results. It doesn’t help that there’s no counterpart to Fox and right-wing talk radio (which is a cesspit that compared to which Fox is a benign neighborhood swimming pool). It also doesn’t help that there’s no evident strategy of response—resignation plus uncoordinated op-ed pieces and FAIR is not enough.

👏👏👏 And, do not forget ridicule (and we all know there’s more than ample factual material to draw from here)… drives Orange Jesus into paroxysms of ketchup-hurling rage. OK- “Real mature, Mabel”… but still 😈

Anyone voting for trump because gas prices were higher or because they believe that he is a successful businessman or because they believe aborting a fertilized egg or deformed fetus is murder or because they believe he was sent by God or they believe rich people should pay less tax than the rest of us or they believe that he is a patriot or they believe that he can force himself on women against their will or they believe that there are Democrats in the basement of a pizza parlor promoting sex with children or that they can threaten others with assault and battery or that our love interest is wrong or that autocracy should replace democracy are an abomination (Leviticus 1776:2024).

Sleepy Dems trouble me, too. Thanks for explaining their complicity.
